About me (David Rauch)
I am a former journalist turned data scientist who has spent my career exploring how data can explain human behavior and support better decisions. My work has ranged from analyzing large-scale behavioral datasets at consumer platforms to building analytics and policy models for governments.
Before moving fully into data science, I worked in a wide variety of roles—including photojournalist, professional musician, and even backcountry woodsman with the U.S. Forest Service. Those experiences shaped how I approach analytical work today: curiosity-driven, practical, and grounded in real-world problems.
As a researcher, I have presented my work internationally to audiences including members of the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank. My journalism has also been published internationally and translated into multiple languages.
Today I focus on applying machine learning, causal inference, and statistical modeling to understand human behavior and build tools that help organizations make better decisions.
